Architecture: Columbia University Medical Center by Diller Scofidio + Renfro: “..new york-based diller scofidio + renfro, and international practice gensler have collaborated to design columbia university medical center‘s recently unveiled medical and graduate education building in the washington heights community in new york city. the 14-storey tower will incorporate classrooms, collaboration spaces and a simulation center for hands on learning in realistic settings to reflect current methods of teaching, learning and practicing medicine in the 21st century. surrounded with green areas, the new campus addition will revitalize outdoor spaces while the form’s glass-enclosed vertical stack of social and public areas will contribute a landmark to the skyline of manhattan..an auditorium and event areas with integrated technology as well as student support services, lounges, cafes and terraces with views of the hudson river will comprise the interior’s intertwined program. additional rooms will support the university’s newly integrated curriculum of team-based learning..” Interesting form with its open terraces and circulation..
