Design: Reflections on a Soup Spoon, by Alice Rawsthorn: “..it was designed by the Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in the late 1950s for use in one of his architectural projects, the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Then in his late 50s, Jacobsen was the most famous architect in Denmark and was renowned internationally for the sensitivity with which he softened the ascetic Modernist style with gentle curves and sensual finishes..” Excellent, sharp, smart article in The New York Times, by the astute design observer Alice Rawsthorn..

Residential Architecture: Chimney House by Marcio Kogan: “..A wooden patio with trees, formed by the volumetry of the house and a concrete wall, articulates the entire program of the Chimney House. The living room is enclosed in the boxed ground floor of this volume and wide windows open it to the external space. The inner dimensions of the living room..create a sensation of coziness, accentuated by the textured of the concrete ceiling made with narrow wooden formwork. In this way, a desired horizontal proportion for this project is created..” Interior courtyard, indoor/outdoor sensibility, rhythmic texture, extensive glazing, lovely interiors with quite nice furniture..

Residential Architecture: Paraty House by Marcio Kogan: “..Two boxes of reinforced concrete, rest fixed connected on the mountainside of one of these islands; two modern prisms between the large colossal stones of the Brazilian coast. The volumes project outward from the mountain, almost abreast of the beach, in a 8-meters cantilever. The house, of structural ingenuity, finds balance in the topography of the land, constituting an extensive open doorway and living space in the practically-untouched nature..an important furniture collection of the XX century designed, among others, by George Nakashima, Luis Barragan, Lina Bo Bardi, Sérgio Rodrigues, Joaquim Tenreiro and José Zanine Caldas..” Cantilever, extensive glazing, views of the ocean, surrounded by nature..magnificent..stunning furniture, amazing interior..

Design: Bottega Veneta Home Collection 2012: “..for the salone del mobile 2012, creative director tomas maier presented two new furniture groups, numerous new styles added to the existing, and the introduction of a home fragrance, called ‘boisé’. the scent is redolent of wood and spices, notes of violet, bergamot, and vetiver lend freshness to the warmth of cedar and sandalwood. it comes in a room spray and a candle. the new additions to the line will be available in store beginning in september 2012. new to bottega veneta’s trunk-inspired furniture is a tall bookcase with multiple shelves. the dimensions and design of the bookcase allow it to be set against a wall or used as a room divider. now available with cuoio leather profiles and corners..” Rich luxurious interior elements..the “Camp” and “Floating” furniture lines are wonderful..

Design: Salone del Mobile Milan 2012: Dezeen Studio: Sunday at MOST: The final daily video installment from MOST in Milan features the British designer Tom Dixon showing the Digital Forming software he’s got on show that allows customers to customise their own bespoke Tom Dixon lamp or speaker and then purchase it online with the click of a button, and giving away, yes, for free, 400 of his lamps (and a few chairs), Piers Roberts talking about theDesignersblock exhibition in the cloisters of the museum, an overlong neo-romantic and terribly luxury-arty piece by Jules Wright on luggage (!) and, of course, a spot on a gelato university program (!!)..
