Wallpaper* Magazine’s Best of Salone del Mobile 2011 in Milan

Posted by the editors on Wednesday, 27 April 2011

‘Entre-deux’ by Konstantin Grcic for Azucena

Wallpaper* Magazine has done it once again, offering us their own discerning and fabulous edit of the best of the extravaganza that was this year’s Salone del Mobile 2011 in Milan in a 218-image-strong truly excellent slideshow, here.

As Wallpaper* puts it…

Once again, Salone mania was unleashed and the design world honed in on Milan. This year’s fair, which finished Sunday 17th April, mobilised hundreds of thousands design disciples off their Danish-modern couches back home and through the giant fairground’s gates, as well as key events across the city which included Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines’ Hermès Pavillion, the Rossana Orlandi gallery, Ventura Lambrate and, of course, the Wallpaper* Handmade exhibition at the Brioni House.

Didn’t make it round to all the events? Fear not. We snapped away during the week to show you all the wonders the design world has to offer for 2011…

And take a look at all the rest of our Salone del Mobile 2011 Milan posts, here.

Pilar Viladas has written Part 2 of her Salone del Mobile (Milan Design Week, or Milan Furniture Fair to some) wrap-up, entitled, hardly coincidentally, “Milan Report | The Wrap-Up, Part II” in the T-Magazine (or is it The Moment?) section of The New York Times, highlighting some of (t)he(i)r favorites from this year’s outstanding, vast, offering.  Among those favorites you’ll see, in the fine photos by Mattia Zoppellaro and others, Konstantin Grcic‘s discretely paranthetic folding screen, Entre Deux, above,  Maria Volokhova‘s slightly disturbing Dolci Lacrime teapot, the seemingly beribboned Plaid Bench series by Raw-Edges, below, and others.

Julie Lasky has written an article entitled “For Young Hopefuls, Milan Offers a Place to Break In” in the Home & Garden section of The New York Times looking at three younger American designers showing at the immensely important, and somewhat daunting, Salone del Mobile 2011 (Milan Design Week).  For some, hope springs eternal, perhaps.

Includes a nice array of some new (and some older) designs, here.

Milan Design Week Wrap-Up – Highlights of Salone del Mobile Milan 2011

The Klara rocker, by Patricia Urquiola for Moroso, looks old-fashioned and modern at the same time.

Pilar Viladas has written a short, to-the-point article entitled “Milan Report | The Wrap-Up, Part I” for the T-Magazine section of The New York Times, offering her take on some of the highlights of the bewilderingly vast Salone del Mobile 2011 (Milan Design Week) which took place last week in Milan.  What catches her attention?  Well, to begin with, rockers and rugs.  And Urquiolan ubiquity.  An abundance of very nice photos, as seen above and below, by Mattia Zoppellaro.
