At Harry Allen Design, the Black River Fever exhibition of new Brazilian design includes Brunno Jahara’s Armário Alto/Mini Closet, part of his Neorustica collection for NDT Brazil. Opening party tonight, Friday 13 May 2011, 207 Avenue A, NYC; image: Courtesy of Harry Allen Design/The New York Times
Pilar Viladas has written a nice short introduction to some of the upcoming events, in an article entitled “Now Showing | Design Fever” in the T-Magazine section of The New York Times, in and around the 23rd annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair, with stops at the Javits Center, of course, but also in Chelsea, Soho, Noho and the East Village. The article includes a interesting, though brief, slideshow of some of the wonders on view.

Rugs by Irvin Trujillo, left, based on the traditional Chimayo style and right, a brightly striped handwoven rug by Harry Cordova
Brooke Hodge has written an interesting short article entitled “Seeing Things | Weaving New Mexico” in the Design section of the T-Magazine section of The New York Times, looking at contemporary handwoven rugs, blankets and other elements, from workshops in and around Santa Fe, New Mexico, in the southwest United States. Historically inspired contemporary handweaving , easily integrated into a diversity of interior decorating styles.

Pilar Viladas has written Part 2 of her Salone del Mobile (Milan Design Week, or Milan Furniture Fair to some) wrap-up, entitled, hardly coincidentally, “Milan Report | The Wrap-Up, Part II” in the T-Magazine (or is it The Moment?) section of The New York Times, highlighting some of (t)he(i)r favorites from this year’s outstanding, vast, offering. Among those favorites you’ll see, in the fine photos by Mattia Zoppellaro and others, Konstantin Grcic‘s discretely paranthetic folding screen, Entre Deux, above, Maria Volokhova‘s slightly disturbing Dolci Lacrime teapot, the seemingly beribboned Plaid Bench series by Raw-Edges, below, and others.

The Klara rocker, by Patricia Urquiola for Moroso, looks old-fashioned and modern at the same time.

Pilar Viladas has written a short, to-the-point article entitled “Milan Report | The Wrap-Up, Part I” for the T-Magazine section of The New York Times, offering her take on some of the highlights of the bewilderingly vast Salone del Mobile 2011 (Milan Design Week) which took place last week in Milan. What catches her attention? Well, to begin with, rockers and rugs. And Urquiolan ubiquity. An abundance of very nice photos, as seen above and below, by Mattia Zoppellaro.
