Architecture: TLT Tilting Building by BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group): “..By gently balancing a generic hotel slab on the specific mountain slope of Huaxi, we propose a pragmatic landmark, both efficient and unique..Leaning the hotel towards the new center of Huaxi, minimizes its influence on the view from the central lake to the mountain, while improving its own visibility. Through gentle openings in the slope, the underground shopping and parking facilities receive daylight. Going further than utilizing the roof as the “fifth façade”, in our proposal the underside becomes the sixth facade. Where it touches the ground, nature is penetrating the façade grid. Continuing the landscape underneath the building maintains the possibility to cross the site on foot, and creates a distinctive entrance from underneath the building. This echoes the long Chinese tradition of celebrating the point of arrival..” Unique and interesting take on a standard “slab”, cultural sensibility..
