ICFF & New York Design Week – Design Is In The Air

Posted by the editors on Friday, 13 May 2011

At Harry Allen Design, the Black River Fever exhibition of new Brazilian design includes Brunno Jahara’s Armário Alto/Mini Closet, part of his Neorustica collection for NDT Brazil. Pilar Viladas has written a nice short introduction to some of the upcoming events, in an article entitled “Now Showing | Design Fever” in the T-Magazine section of The New York Times, in and around the 23rd annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair,   with stops at the Javits Center, of course, but also in Chelsea, Soho, Noho and the East Village.  The article includes a interesting, though brief, slideshow of some of the wonders on view.

Dezeen offers a bit more on the Neorustica collection for NDT Brazil, here.

ICFF 2010 Editors Awards – Design Category Award Winners at New York’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair

Posted by the editors on Tuesday, 18 May 2010

International Contemporary Furniture Fair 2010 New York City

Here are links to all the winners of the 2010 ICFF Editors Awards covering a spectrum of design categories including New Designer (Objeti LLC , and Studio Dunn), Craftmanship (Cocochi Design), Furniture (Mabeo), Seating (Arper Spa), Lighting (Peter Stathis & Virtual Studio), Carpet and Flooring (Ardeco Interier Sro), Materials (Triple Pin Blue Denim Tiles presented by Material ConneXion, Inc.), Wall Covering (Timorous Beasties), Accessories (Kikkerland Design Inc.), Outdoor Furniture (Snow Peak, Inc.), Textiles (Dana Barnes Design), Kitchen and Bath (Axor), Body of Work (Blu Dot), Multiple Production (Tom Dixon), Design School (MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art)), and Booth (Molo).

We encourage you, of course, to visit the sites of all of these award winners.  But don’t limit your excursions to the winners alone as there are many (many!) others whose work is very good (and, indeed, perhaps more to your liking).  One way of taking a look around would be the Twitter hashtag #ICFF2010, needless to say.  Another way would be to delve into the wonders offered by the publications with which the judges/editors are affiliated.  To this end:

Finalists were chosen by the Editors Committee, including Arlene Hirst, Anniina Koivu of Abitare, Jessica Johnson of Azure, Stefano Casciani of Domus, Sam Grawe of Dwell, Gilda Bojardi of Interni, Chantal Hamaide of Intramuros, Susan S. Szenasy of Metropolis, Benjamin Kempton of Wallpaper*.

And, frankly, you really couldn’t go wrong by subscribing to any, or all, of these publications.
