* Residential Architecture: Hanaha House by mA-style architects

Posted by the editors on Saturday, 21 July 2012

Residential Architecture: Hanaha House by mA-style architects: “..The courtyard, known as hanaha, creates a space of spiral movement and familial interaction..The family can move spirally around the flowers and trees to observe and enjoy them from different perspectives..”  Despite a truly minimal architect’s description, Hanaha House offers interesting interior volumes, interior courtyard, ample glazing, natural light, privacy, exposed timber rafters and interesting fenestration..

* Residential Architecture: Pelo House by mA-style architects

Posted by the editors on Sunday, 8 July 2012

Residential Architecture: Pelo House by mA-style architects: “..Pelo is Japanese onomatopoeic word, it expresses the sounds that we peel one’s off..The wall that is peeled off creates new space and new aperture..The roof that is peeled off creates spatial extent to the sky..The wall that is peeled off turns to the eaves and wraps aperture..The yard that is peeled off turns to the floor and creates flat extent..The only action Pelo, that peel one’s off, creates new space and engineers these special quality well..Pelo assumes the various functions and elements, and also would peel new page about what house should be off..”  Nevertheless, the curvilinear geometry offers an appealing (hmmm..) divergence from the superabundance of rectilinearity..

* Residential Architecture: Ant House by mA-style architects

Posted by the editors on Wednesday, 13 June 2012

Residential Architecture: Ant House by mA-style architects: “..a metal-clad house with a smaller wooden house inside..The playhouse-like structure has a gabled rooftop that just skims the uppermost ceiling of the two-storey residence in Makinohara, which itself is a rectilinear box..Located at the centre of the house, the little structure contains living rooms on both levels, while bathrooms and a closet are also slotted inside it on the ground floor..Openings in the walls and ceiling provide windows to the rooms beyond, which include a kitchen and dining room below and bedrooms above..”  Privacy, interior fenestration and lightwells, curious and imaginative embedding of a wooden almost iconic gable home inside a strict grey metallic warehouse-like box..
