* Residential Architecture: Mews 02 by Andy Martin Architects

Posted by the editors on Sunday, 11 March 2012

Residential Architecture: Mews 02 by Andy Martin Architects: “..this existing mechanics garage [is] converted to a 4 level family home, with the emphasis on the entertaining areas and with the ability to create private compartments over for sleeping…On first impression, as one passes through the entry gates, the sunken courtyard resembles a slate quarry with its charcoal blocks running externally and reaching internally to the rear of the residence. Immediately is possible to feel the playful use of dark and light, of black and white. The seamless flooring is flowing horizontally through each level and the contrasting charcoal construction blocks are rising vertically. This spine wall creates the circulation hub and ama set out to isolate each floor using this device…An important aspect of this project is the way ama have managed to capture the available light creatively, using glazed and wooden screens, and even natural vegetation screens giving all the space unique atmosphere throughout the day and night..”  Excellent conversion; light-filled, imaginative spaces..

* Architecture: Tori Tori Restaurant by Rojkind Arquitectos + ESRAWE Studio

Posted by the editors on Saturday, 10 March 2012

Architecture: Tori Tori Restaurant by Rojkind Arquitectos + ESRAWE Studio: “..the main focus was placed on renovating the house, stripping the residential interior and removing all familiar features to produce an entirely different environment..Maintaining a very intimate and subtle feel towards the first encounter with the exterior, once you enter you’ll find yourself in a terrace, where eating and drinking are embraced by natural vegetation. The building’s organic façade and landscape were carefully designed to become an extension of the restaurant creating a strong relationship between the inside and the outside..”  Residential conversion; dramatic reworking of exterior expression and interior space; Winner of the ArchDaily Building of the Year 2011, category Hotel + Restaurant Architecture..

* Residential Architecture: Farm On The Wamberg by Hilberink Bosch Architecten

Posted by the editors on Thursday, 8 March 2012

Residential Architecture: Farm On The Wamberg by Hilberink Bosch Architecten: “..built in 1893..In this farm the house and barn are incorporated in one very large volume. The former house, situated at the front of the volume, is transformed and adjusted to modern requirements. Much effort has been spend to make all alterations look very natural. The biggest change is made on the upper floors where new (bed)rooms have been created, adjoining a great hall..”  Exceptional interior, despite numerous questionable decoration choices..
