Posted by the editors on Saturday, 23 June 2012

Residential Architecture: Highgate Hill House by Shaun Lockyer Architects: “..This project involved significant alterations and additions to a turn of the century cottage..The house is well set back from the corner of the block affording a private and open garden courtyard and pool area from where one can enjoy city views. The house itself enjoys a progressive and overt contemporary “sleaving” of the new through the old..The finishes which consisted mostly of Blackbutt and Travertine offer a beautifully crafted and contemporary feel to the otherwise complex and quite unpredictable floor plan. The inclusion of rich Calcutta stone in the kitchen and ensuite finish off a luxurious and highly detailed sequence of intimate spaces..”  Extensive glazing, natural light and views, indoor/outdoor sensibility, distinctive interior and exterior wood elements..

Residential Architecture: Townhouse in Horgen by Moos Giuliani Herrmann Architekten: “..Restrictive building regulations and the small property require a special adaption of the external shape..The precisely planned facade has been created out of white concrete. * Residential Architecture: Travertine Dream House by Wallflower Architecture + Design

Posted by the editors on Saturday, 7 April 2012

Residential Architecture: Travertine Dream House by Wallflower Architecture + Design: “..The house is organised as two parallel blocks connected by a glass enclosed bridge. The separation between the two blocks allows daylight to stream down to basement spaces. Thick travertine walls and large overhangs are placed on the western side to limit heat gain from the harsh afternoon sun. The entry, living spaces and bedrooms are arranged longitudinally to take advantage of natural cross ventilation and daylight. In order to intensify land use without ending up with an imposing structure, the four storied house has one level sunk into the ground and the other three set away from the access road..”  Maximised green and “blue” space, indoor/outdoor sensibility, travertine, wood, abundant light..
