Residential Architecture: Campanules House by EXAR Architecture: “..Belgian studio EXAR Architecture have replaced walls of brick and plaster with glass and Corten steel on this extension to a suburban house outside Brussels..The new elevation is located at the rear of the house, where it projects towards the garden to increase the size of the ground-floor kitchen and first-floor bathroom..Glazed walls slide open to connect the kitchen with the terrace outside, while a tall window upstairs offers a view out from a new shower area..” Extensive glazing, abundant natural light, materials sensibility..

Residential Architecture: Stine-Gybels House by Pierre Hebbelinck: “..The programme consists in a five-bedrooms single family dwelling comprising two closed garages and endowed with an area dedicated to a film production company..The project rapidly evolved towards a distinction of primary and secondary volumes in a way to articulate on the land. In the last version, the second volume pivoted by a few degrees in order to consider the curve of the hollow path. The implementation thus allowed maintaining the maximum amount of sloping and of land to maintain the overall concept of under wood..” First, it’s best to correctly understand the poorly translated (from the French, one would imagine) “sous-bois”, here translated as “under wood”, meaning, in fact, undergrowth common to a forested area or its surroundings; nevertheless, and despite the rather daunting entry stairs, the home is developed in an interesting manner..(a shame the vehicle is included in the photo…)

Pantone Hotel in Brussels, Belgium
Image Pantone Hotel/DesignMilk
One of our favorite design blogs, DesignMilk, has published a post entitled “The Pantone Hotel in Belgium” on the newly opened Pantone Hotel in Brussels, Belgium. Colorful and graphic, as befits Pantone, of course, the hotel “combines the strong emotions evoked by color with exceptional, vivid design and unyielding comfort”, as Pantone itself says.
