Residential Architecture: Seacliff House by Chris Elliott Architects: “..situated on a long and narrow sliver of land that was leftover from the original subdivision. the area enjoys spectacular views over the ocean, the adjacent park, sandstone cliffs and headland to the south, designing with the peculiarities of the site rather than struggle against them..the ground floor is a long transparent platform where nature is welcomed in and not excluded. it is ordered by a series of columns and defined by solid walls. glass runs along, around and above the rigid elements, curving and weaving to provide various lookout points around the perimeter. while large sliding and pivoting transparent doors open to the outside..” Solar energy, green roof, roof terrace, extensive glazing, lovely views and natural light, intriguing interior with intrusions of rock, interesting interior volumes and detail fenestration/lightwells, contextual and indoor/outdoor sensibility..

Residential Architecture: Gordons Bay House by Luigi Rosselli Architects: “..set on the hillside overlooking the bay, the design consists of three levels, each floor alternatively offset from the boundary by six degrees. the alternating orientation of each tier provides a response to different constraints imposed by the site. the garage floor is skewed to provide easy access from the adjacent lane, while maximizing the landscaped area at the front of the dwelling. the ground level alternately angles northwest towards the view of the bay and the countryside. this also preserves and enhances vistas from the public street on the southern side of the building. the first floor scissors to produce a series of roof terraces and cantilevered overhangs that correspondingly expose and cover the spaces above and below..” Extensive glazing, natural light, views, interesting form and details, contextual sensibility, terraces..

Residential Architecture: Skirt + Rock House by MCK Architects: “..The existing gardens contained two large eucalypts that greet you on your rise up the hill, and a large rock that sat in the hill to the rear of the house, which became our focal and pivotal natural element in the new composition..With the underlying philosophy of relative modesty, the new form is setback, maintaining existing amenity enjoyed by neighbours. First floor accommodation is concealed in the black roof form, providing a recessive appearance from the street, nestling into the landscape..We arrived at the double height central void early in the design, as it allowed access to desired sunlight, air and connection to the landscape, with our ‘rock’ becoming a feature in the lounge room. The shingled roof contains the void and envelops a parent’s suite and gallery library/study. It rests on two legs at opposite corners of the building allowing possibility of a clear opening to the garden and pond at this level..” Sensitivity to landscape and environmental context, extensive glazing, abundant natural light, sociability and privacy..
