Residential Architecture: Ranco House by elton+léniz arquitectos asociados: “..The house is located in a privileged area of ground in terms of views, orientation, etc.. so the shape of the house adapts to the existing, respecting the existence of a large rock cliff and a number of native trees. Both the shape of the house as its program does not serve the purpose of intervening the natural landscape. that is why the house is composed of two volumes connected by a (glass) bridge way around the rock and adapt to the position of the trees..The language of the house responds to the use of typical materials of the south of Chile (shingles, wood) with its own language by treating the wood with carbonileo outward, giving the color black, and a natural interior. Moreover, it is used a more contemporary language with the concrete to create a high noble plane on which is mounted much of the program. The result is a mix between a typical southern barn and a contemporary house, taking care of the integration of interior and exterior, in which, like a tree house, the house takes a privileged position facing the landscape..” Interesting form, details, interior volumes; exposed timber beams and rafters..

Architecture: Video: Building the Golden Gate Bridge: “..Courtesy of the Prelinger Archives, this archival 1930s footage by Bethlehem Steel captures every phase of construction of the Golden Gate Bridge. The iconic, San Francisco structure celebrated its 75th anniversary this year, as it opened May 27th, 1937. Including the approaches, the Golden Gate Bridge spans a remarkable length of 1.7 miles (8981ft or 2737m), making it the longest span in the world from its completion in 1937 until the Verrazano Narrows Bridge was built in New York in 1964. A unique aspect to the construction of the suspension bridge was the emphasis placed on safety..” Astounding..

Architecture: Arganzuela Footbridge by Dominique Perrault Architecture: “..The footbridge enables people to cross from one side of the park to the other while also providing direct access to the park below. Cone like in structure, the bridge has two interlocking metal spirals, wrapped by a metallic ribbon. Spaced wooden slats make up the floor of the bridge, allowing the rays of the sun to penetrate through to the park below. The cones’ geographic location creates a belvedere over the park and the surrounding city as well as an exceptional location from which it will be possible to admire the famous Toledo Bridge. Shaded during the day, the promenade becomes luminous at night..” Distinct spiral form, social sensibility..

Architecture: Peace Bridge in Calgary by Santiago Calatrava: “..the single span helical footbridge gently arcs across the water, sheltering users with a glass roof alng its 126 meter length..the structure will provide pedestrians and cyclists with connecting routes between the urban center and memorial drive. pathways defined with curbs separate modes of movement, allowing bicycles to maneuver safely withing a central bike lane and foot traffic travels along the elevated sidewalks placed on either side..the rounded cross section of the cover and platform is generated mathematically with two clearly defined tangential radii to create an internal and experiential space. formed by the criss-crossing of the steel exterior leaves openings which have been selectively screened with a fritted glazed panel to protect form rain and snow. pigmented a vibrant red, the framework generates a landmark presence for the area, accenting the trees and grass-covered landscape, especially during autumnal foliage. linear lighting is integrated into the structure and handrail, producing a downward way-finding illumination. its delicate presence is reflected within the water below..” Superb, futuristic, biomorphically, microscopically contemporary, distinctive, Calatrava-issime..
