SOM/The New York Times

A computer rendering of the proposed plan for the New School’s 16-story, $353 million University Center. Bands of glass on the sides of the building will allow pedestrians to see students and faculty members circulate along corridors and stairwells.

Charles V. Bagli has written an article entitled “The New School to Build a Multipurpose, 16-Story Building” in the N.Y./Region section of The New York Times (online) discussing the new building designed by Roger Duffy of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill to be built on Fifth Avenue between 13th and 14th Streets in NYC.   The $353 million University Center will house lecture halls, an auditorium, academic spaces, student lounges, stores and a 600-bed dormitory on the top nine floors.  Construction is scheduled to begin in August 2010 and finish in 2013.

Posted by the editors on Friday, 2 April 2010

DesignMilk, the design blog that helps build strong (well-designed) bodies in 12 ways, has a nice post on the Swedish-American mid-century architect and designer Greta Magnusson Grossman coinciding with exhibitions of Magnusson-Grossman’s work at R20th Century Gallery in NYC and the Arkitecturmuseet in Stockholm, Sweden.  An interesting story and some wonderful mid-century design.

Michael Appleton for The New York Times

Nicolai Ouroussoff has written an astoundingly positive article entitled “At the Corner of Grit and Glamour” in the Art & Design section of The New York Times (online) reviewing the new Jean Nouvel luxury tower in NYC.  We’ve heard, though, that not everyone agrees with him.  What do you think?
