Architecture: Stonehenge Visitor Centre by Denton Corker Marshall: “..[Work has finally started on] Denton Corker Marshall’s design for a new visitor centre at Stonehenge, a prehistoric stone circle in England..In 2009 the Australian architecture firm won a competition to replace existing facilities branded “a national disgrace”, but plans were ditched the following year by the incoming government..The design, which was the latest in a string of proposals dating back to 2003 for the World Heritage Site, was later rescued by funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund..As well as a low-key visitor building, the £27 million project involves the closure and grassing over of the A344 road that runs alongside the monument and the removal of the existing car park, underpass, toilets and other facilities..The visitor centre will be constructed away from the stones, with visitors reaching the monument on foot or by shuttle..”

Residential Architecture: View Hill House by Denton Corker Marshall: “..Australian architects Denton Corker Marshall have completed an isolated hilltop house in Australia with one storey hanging precariously over the other..The dramatic cantilever defines the silhouette of View Hill House, which looks out over the Yarra Valley winemaking region of Victoria..The exterior of the lower storey is clad in pre-rusted steel and the upper storey has walls of black aluminium..Chunky chipboard lines the interior walls and ceilings of both levels and the floor of the upper storey, while the lower storey features a polished concrete floor..” Dramatic cantilever, metal cladding, extensive glazing, natural light, views..

Architecture: New Australian Pavilion for the Venice Biennale by Denton Corker Marshall: “..the winning design for the ‘new australian pavilion’,
a replacement structure expected to be constructed for the 2015 venice biennale in italy..with a 320 square meter footprint and two levels of exhibition spaces, the volume will become the main destination for the country’s visual arts and architecture during the yearly events. positioned within the wooded gardens of the ‘giardini della biennale’, a simple black box will conceal a white box which does not compete or overwhelm with the range of objects to be presented inside..producing the matte charcoal finish are panels of south australian black granite supported with a steel structural framework. the galleries will feature white walls and polished concrete floors for a flexible and adaptable interior. a piano nobile gallery is cantilevered towards the canal. along the exterior, four three-meter stone panels open in a shuter-like manner to introduce visitors, light and serve as additional display areas. a ground level entry along the water will offer another loading portal..”
